JR West delivered 125 series into services for its newly electrified Obama
line linking Hihashi-Maizuru and Tsutuga in 2002. 125 series are equipped
with the front cab on each end of the vehicles in order to make form 1-car
formation to 5-car formation. Body construction is that the pressed stainless
sheet and the outside sheet are combined and those sheets themselves keep
the strength. 125 series delivered into the Obama line are equipped with
2 doors on each side of the body. The third door is prepared at the centre
of the body such as 223 series. Each vehicle is equipped with two traction
motors. Although the traction system controls two traction motors on axle
basis, 4-motor control is prepared. This traction system is 2 level VVVF
inverter unit, WPC14, adopting high voltage IGBT (Insulated Gate Bipolar
Transistor). Moreover this traction system can change the acceleration
performance. Although the acceleration performance is set up low when used
in Obama Line, the acceleration performance can be set up the same as that
of 207 series or 223-2000 series.
Although the auxiliary power supply equipment of 223-2000 series is unified with the traction system, that of 125 series is independent of the traction system. Auxiliary power supply equipment consists of 2 sets of inverter unit with same capacity, and 2 operating ways can be selected as the
need arises: "parallel units operation" or "single unit
operation as the standby type dual system". Each 125 series vehicle
has 1 or 2 single-arm current collector(s). Bogies are same as 223-2000
series. A vehicle is equipped with a motored bogie and a trailer bogie
since a vehicle is equipped with only two traction motors. Oil dampers
of the primary suspensions are omitted.Passenger accommodation is 2+1 abreast
seating such as 223-0 series. Later, passenger accommodation of 125 series
used on the local services of the Obama line was changed into 2+2 abreast
seating.
125 series were also delivered into services for its newly electrified Kakogawa line linking Kakogawa and Tanigawa in 2004. Passenger accommodation is 2+1 abreast seating.
Now 125 series are used on the local services of the Obama line and the
Kakogawa line. |
