303series
Type index

303 series are electric multiple unit (EMU) trains type developed by JR Kyushu coinciding with double-tracking of the section of Chikuhi line between Chikuzen-Maebaru and Shimoyamato in 2000.
Its body construction is that the pressed stainless sheet and the outside sheet are combined and those sheets themselves keep the strength. The body surface is flat and smooth. Windows are heat ray absorption glasses, so blinds are omitted. End cars are equipped with an emergency plug door in front of them for underground railways.
4 out of 6 cars are powered with AC traction motors rated at 150kW, giving high acceleration performance rated at 3.3 km/h/s. AC traction motors are driven by 2-level AVAF inverter traction system on 2 cars collective adopting IGBT (Insulated-Gate Bipolar Transistor). Traction systems equipped with moha303. Moha303-100 and Moha302-100 are equipped with 2 single-arm type current collectors.
Bogies are DT405K/TR405K adopting the bolster-less air suspension. Wheel diameter is reduced to 810mm to decrease the difference in level between the platform and the floor of the train.
Passenger accommodation consists of longitudinal bench seating throughout. As for the device of driving cab, one handle master controller operated by the left hand was adopted. 303 series are compatible with automatic train operation (ATO) used on the Fukuoka Subway tracks, and are also equipped for conductor-less operation. Kuha303 vehicles are equipped with a universal access toilet.
303 series EMU trains are used on through services between Nishi-Karatsu the Chikuhi Line and Fukuoka on the Kuko Line operated by the Fukuoka City Transportation Bureau.
