323series

Type index

In 2016, the 323 series DC electric multiple unit (EMU) trains were developed by JR West in order to replace supereannuated 103 series EMU and 201 series EMU and to standardize door spacing ahead of the introduction of platform doors on all Osaka Loop Line stations. 323 series fleet consists of eight-car sets. Since 323 series offer 0.5M system, all cars are powered. All cars are fitted with the traction system and the auxiliary power supply.
The vehicle design incorporates stain-less steel adopting laser beam welding, featuring guide plates against the offset collision, and the shock absorption construction of the end cars. Each car has three pairs of sliding doors on each side of the body, unlike the four pairs on 103 and 201 series trains. Their end cars feature LED headlights. The full-colour LED destination indicators integrated with train-type indicators are fitted.
Adjustable Voltage Adjustable Frequency (AVAF) inverter traction system features Silicon carbide (SiC) MOSFET in order to reduce electricity consumption and to realize regeneration rate improvement. These traction systems are unified with the auxiliary power supply. Traction motors rated at 220 kW are induction motors that are able to improve workability in maintenace featuring non-destructive bearing replacement. Kumoha323 and Moha323 vehicles are equipped with a current collector. Moha323-0 vehicles are equipped with another backup current collector.
They feature WDT63C/WTR246H/I bogies, adopting the bolster-less air suspension, and axle arm type journal box supporting system. Bogies prepares the yaw dampers and anti-rolling stabilizers.
The analog indicators of the driver's cab were changed into the liquid crystal display. Body Vibration Detector (BVD) are introduced.
Seating is longitudinal throughout, with priority seating at one end of each car, and a wheelchair/stroller space at the opposite end. The passenger saloons use LED lighting. Two ceiling-mounted and eight door-mounted passenger information display units are provided in each car. These feature two 17-inch screens, displaying information in four languages (Japanese, English, Korean, and Chinese). WiFi service is also provided.
323 series entered revenue sevices in 2016, and are now used on the Osaka Loop Line commuter services.
