Since diesel multiple unit (DMU) trains used on ordinary services of inactive
lines were superannuated, JR West delivered Kiha120, which is smaller and
lighter than the former DMU trains, from 1992. Niigata Engineering develops
Kiha120, which is the light DMU train. Cabs are located at both ends of
the vehicle. Bodies of -200 sub-class are constructed of steel and those
of -0 sub-class and -300 sub-class are constructed of lightweight stainless
steel. Their passenger accommodation of -0 sub-class and -300 sub-class
is mixture of longitudinal bench seating and transverse seating bays and
that of -200 sub-type is bench seating seating throughout. Kiha120 is equipped
with no toilet. The air conditioner is driven by the traction engine.
Kiha120 adopts air suspension bogies. The journal box supporting system
of kiha120-200 is the pedestal, and that of kiha120-0 and kiha120-300 is
chevron. Traction engines are SA6D125H-1. Its power of -200 sub-class is
rated 250PS and that of -0 sub-class and -300 sub-class is 330PS.
Now kiha120 vehicles are used on the rural services of inelectrified lines
owned by JR West. |
