Kiha31 is a single-car diesel multiple unit (DMU) train type developed
by Japanese National Railways (JNR) in order to displace superannuated
general purpose DMU trains used on the rural services in Kyushu.
They adopt the light stainless body with the blue waistline band. Their
body length is 550mm shorter than standard general purpose DMU trains.
They are equipped with 2 folding doors on each side of the vehicles. Folding
doors are driven by the improved automatic switch gear for the door of
a bus.
Bogies are DT22G/TR51E which disused vehicles were equipped with. Kiha31
vehicles employ a flat-six arrangerment diesel engine, DMF13HS, rated at
250 PS which adopt direct injection. The hydraulic transmission gear is
TC2A/DF115A which disused vehicles were equipped with.
The accommodation is 2-1 abreast switchable transverse seating transplanted from the disused 0 series of Shinkansen. These cars are not equipped with toilets. The air conditioner, AU34, is driven by the sub engine.
Kiha31 vehicles are used on the rural services of Chikuho line, Gotoji
line, Hitahikosan line, and Misumi line. |
