Kuha455-400

457 series are combined 455 series and 475 series and can be operated for both DC and 50Hz/60Hz AC electrified lines. The transformer of 457 series was developed for both 50Hz and 60Hz AC, based on that of 475 series. 457 series and 475 series share trailer cars of 455 series.
165 series use DT32/TR69 which bogies have simple construction and of which maintenance is easier. When 457 series were developed, JNR was promoting to fit the vehicles used on the express services with the air conditioners. So all vehicles of 457 series are equipped with the air conditioners when they were delivered. Seats of 1st class are adjustable reclining and all seats of standard class are fixed cross seats. Now there are some vehicles of which some seats were changed into long seat.
Insufficient end cars were filled up by applying surplus end cars of 165/169 series or transplanting the cab section onto the intermediate cars of 457 series.
Although 457 series had been used in ordinary trains operated on the Hokuriku line with 471 and 475 series, all 475 series vehicles were withdrawn by the displacement to 521 series in 2015.
