Although kiha181
series had been used on intercity services of the Sanin line, JR West developed
kiha187 series in order to increase the competitive power against motorcars
in 2000 and entered “Super Oki” services and “Super Kunibiki” services in
2001. Although the standard formation of kiha187 series is 2-car formation,
kiha187 can make 3-car or 4-car formation easily, because all cars are equipped
with automatic jumper at both ends of the car.
Kiha187’s body construction is that the pressed stainless sheet and the
outside sheet are combined such as 223-2000
series and those sheets themselves keep the strength. Bolster-less air suspension
bogies, WDT61, are equipped with built-in bearing guides for body tilting
system, and equipped with yaw dampers to ensure smooth ride characteristics
even at high speed. Kiha187 series are equipped with 2 traction engines,
SA6D140-H-1, a vehicle and are equipped with hydraulic transmission gears,
DW21 in order to achieve high service speed and high acceleration performance.
Since the generators for auxiliary power is driven by the traction engines,
and can supply 440VAC such as electric trains, electric system is same
as electric trains. The brake system is changed into the electric command
brake such as electric trains. How to operate kiha187 is same as electric
trains.
All seats are adjustable reclining. The seat pitch is 970mm. Kiha187-0
is equipped with the toilet and kiha187-1000 is equipped with the smoking
counter.
Since kiha187 also entered “Inaba” services linking Okayama and Tottori
in 2003, JR West built kiha187 series. These kiha187 series were given some
improvements. Side entrance is moved and the number of the air conditioner
is inceased.
Now kiha187 series are used on intercity services of the Sanin line and
the Yamaguchi line. |
