Type index

Kiha100-0 is a single-car diesel multiple unit (DMU) train type developed by JR East in order to replace superannuated Kiha20 series and Kiha45 series vehicles and improve the ordinary services of the Kitakami Line.
They feature smaller, lighter and more powerful than the former DMU trains. Their body constructed by the steel is 16,000mm long and 2,800mm wide. The floor level becomes lower than the former DMU trains so the difference between the step of the doorway and the floor becomes smaller. Passengers can open or close plug doors manually by pushing buttons. Kiha100 vehicles adopt the tight lock coupler with the automatic jumper coupler.
Lightweight bolster-less bogies, DT59/TR243, are adopted. Motored bogies, DT59, adopt 2-axle drive. Their wheel base is 2,000mm long. The brake system is the electric command brake.
Kiha100 vehicles are equipped with a prime mover, DMF11HZ or DMF14HZ, rated at 330PS and are equipped with multi-plate wet clutch hydraulic transmission gears, DW14B in order to achieve high service speed and high acceleration performance.
Passenger accommodation is a mix of transverse seating bays and longitudinal bench seats. The air conditioner is AU26J-B driven by a prime mover.
Kiha100-0 vehicles are now used on the ordinary services of the Kitakami, Ohfunato, Kamaishi, and Yamada lines.
