Type index

JR West developed Kiha127 series diesel railcars to run on upgrade Kishin line linking Himeji and Niimi. The standard formation of kiha127 series is 2-car formation by -0 sub-class vehicle with the toilet and -1000 sub-class vehicle without toilet. Twin cab vehicles are classified into kiha122.
Their body construction is that the pressed stainless sheet and the outside sheet are combined and those sheets themselves keep the strength, such as 223-2000 series suburban electric trains. Their bodies are made stronger than Kiha126 series. Their body design is similar to 223-2000 series DC suburban electric multiple unit (EMU) trains. Two double slide doors are located at the both ends of the body. Kiha127 series differ from kiha126 series in having no footstep.
Lightweight bolster-less bogies, WDT65/WTR259, are adopted. Vehicles are equipped with a motored bogie and a trailer bogie. The brake system is the electric command brake, such as kiha126 series. Kiha127 series are equipped with a traction engine, SA6D140HE-2, adopting Common rail direct fuel injection for anti-air pollution, a vehicle and are equipped with hydraulic transmission gears, DW21 in order to achieve high service speed and high acceleration performance. Since the generators for auxiliary power is driven by the traction engines, and can supply 440VAC such as electric trains, electric system is same as EMU trains.
Passenger accommodation is 2+1 abreast switchable transverse seating such as 223-0 series. 2 air conditioners, WAU707 rated at 20,000kcal/h, are fitted on the roof.
Kiha127 series entered ordinary services of transverse from March, 2009.
