KihaE130-0 is a single-car diesel multiple unit (DMU) train type developed by JR East in order to replace superannuated Kiha58 series vehicles used on the rural services of JR East non-electrified lines and releave overcrowding on the Suigun rural services.
Passenger accommodation consists of 1+2 abreast facing seating bays in the centre of each car, and longitudinal bench seating at the ends of cars. The ticket machine, which put the ticket indicates the boarding station, is located at the boarding doors. The fare display and the fare box are located behind the motorman's cab. They are also equipped with a universal access toilet and a wheelchair space.
The vehicle design incorporates light stainless-steel construction and wide and low floor bodies such as E233 series EMU trains. The level difference of the door step is smaller to 45mm because of the lower floor level. Windows are a mixture of double-hang unit assembled windows and fixed windows. Kiha E130-0 adopt heat ray absorption windowpanes so blinds are discontinued. 3 doors are located at either side of the body. Door operating equipment is driven by the direct drive air cylinders. An air conditioner, AU732 rated at 33,000kcal/h, is fitted on the roof.
Lightweight bolster-less bogies, DT74/TR259, are adopted, and their journal box supporting system is axle arm type. Vehicles are equipped with a motored bogie and a trailer bogie. The brake system is the electric command brake, such as kiha110 series. Kiha E130-0 vehicles are equipped with a traction engine, DMF15HZ, featuring Common rail direct fuel injection for anti-air pollution, a vehicle and are equipped with hydraulic transmission gears, DW22 with internal constant-speed unit (CSU) to connect the the generators for auxiliary power. Since 440VAC such as electric trains can be supplied, electric system is same as EMU trains.
