Background and overview
Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and tourism obliged the installation of the drive recorder to the vehicles which were operated over 100km/h or more. EF65-1000 locomotives owned by JR passenger railway companies are equipped with the drive recorder in order to run at over 100km/h. However, the maximum services speed of EF65-1000 owned by JR Freight is 95km/h or less and they don't need the drive recorder. Thus, JR Freight reclassified all EF65-1000 locomotives owned by JR Freight into -2000 subclass for distinguishment of their service speed in 2012.
Operations and withdrawal
EF65-2000 locomotives had been used on freight service. However, they were
gradually displaced with EF200 and EF210 locomotives. Remainings are now
used on freight services around Tokyo metropolitan area and in Shikoku
region. |
