V2 set in the special "EVANGELION" livery

V2 set in the special "Hello Kitty" livery

V set
After withdrawing from Tokaido and Sanyo Shinkansen Nozomi services because of introducing N700 series vehicles, eight 16-car 500 series sets were reformed as new 8-car V sets from 2008 to replace life-expired 0 series R sets on Sanyo Shinkansen Kodama services. They are classified into -7000 sub-series.
Current collectors were moved from cars 5 and 13 to cars 2 and 7. The roof where Aerodynamic "T" type current collectors are fitted should be low. Since it's difficult to make the roof lower in order to fit current collectors, 500-7000 series are equipped with standard single-arm type current collectors. It's difficult to fir any side fences beside the current collectors because 500 series vehicles have the circular cross section profile. Maximum service speed of 500-7000 series is 285km/h because of reduction of increasing environment noise by no side fence.
Segregated smoking compartments were prepared to cars 3, and 7 to make all seating accommodation no-smoking. Car-6 reserved standard class has first class style 2+2 abreast seating. Car-6 vehicle reformed from the first class vehicle differs from original first class vehicle in discontinuing reading lights and foot rests.
Between October and December 2013, cars 4 and 5 are also scheduled to have the original seating removed and replaced with new 2+2 abreast seating.
500-7000 series entered Sanyo Shinkansen Kodama services, displacing the 0 series trains used on these trains from 2009.
