In 2014, JR Hokkaido delivered 733-3000 series electric multiple unit (EMU)
trains in order to releave overcrowding on "Airport" rapid services
linking New Chitose Airport and Otaru, because earlier 721 series used
on "Airport" rapid services have 2-2 abreast switchable transverse
seating and the partition door of the doorway.
733-3000 series vehicles differ from 733-0 in including U-seat car and
having 6-car formation with 2 motored intermediate cars, 2 trailer intermediate
cars, and 2 trailer end cars.
Traction motors were changed into fully closed type, N-MT733.
U seat class has 2+2 open plan rotatable seating accommodation and vestibules.
And also, roll-up curtains are fitted at the windows. Standard class has
longitudinal bench seating throughout. 733-3000 series feature LED lighting
in the passenger areas. Kuha733-3100 and Saha733-3100 vehicles are equipped
with a universal access toilet. Kuha733-3200 and Saha733-3100 are equipped
with wheelchair spaces. U seat class, Saha733-3200, has a train crew's
room.
733-3000 series are used on "Airport" rapid service linking New
Chitose Airport and Otaru, and ordinary services of Hakodate line and Chitose
