733 series were designed for Sapporo regional services on newly AC electrified Sassho line between Sapporo and Hokkaido-Iryodaigaku, and entered the service in 2012. Although the styling was based on that of the 731 series, their floor level is 100 mm lower to discontinue the step at the doorway. Their body is wider than that of 721 series or 731 series. The vehicle design incorporates stain-less steel adopting laser beam welding and the shrouding of the under-floor equipment against snow.
3-car trains consist of a motored intermediate car and two trailer end
cars. Intermediate cars are equipped with a current collector, the transformer,
and the traction system. The 2 level AVAF (Adjustable Voltage Adjustable
Frequency) inverter controls traction motors, N-MT731, rated at 230kw on
track basis. Maximum service speed is 120km/h. Regenerative brake is available
until 0km/h. Bolster-less bogies adopt the yaw dampers to ensure smooth
ride characteristics even at 120km/h. their journal box supporting system
is axle arm type.
Although passenger accommodation was also based on that of the 731 series,
they differ from 731 series in discontinuing tip-up seating besides the
doors. 733ries are equipped with the semi-automatic doors. Passengers can
open or close doors manually by pushing buttons. The air curtains for preventing
from open-air coming in are fitted on doorways.
733 series entered the service from 2012 and gave been used for the local services of the Sassho line, the Hakodate line, and the Chitose line. |
