Background and overview
JR Kyushu developed 811-0 series suburban AC electric multiple unit (EMU)
in order to replace superannuated 421 series EMU used on the ordinary services
in Kyushu in 1989. Their formation consists of 2 motored vehicles and 2
trailer vehicles. 3-car formation is available to consist of 2 motored
vehicles and 1 trailer vehicle, and 2-car formation is available to consist
of 1 motored vehicle and 1 new trailer vehicle with a traction system in
the future.
Car body
They have 2950mm wide body, incorporating light weight stainless construction.
They have the bias-cut red and blue waistline band running the length of
each car below the windows. An emergency gangway is fitted in front of
the end car. A cab section is constructed by steel and painted in white.
A black plate is fitted around windscreens, with a red "New Rapid
Train 811" logo splashed in front. They are equipped with three 1300mm
wide double-leaf automatic sliding doors on each side of the vehicles and
drop windows between the doors. Door operating equipments, TK111, are fitted
above the upper groove of the sliding doors. Traditional roller-binding
destination screens are fitted on each side of the body. An air conditioner,
AU403K, rated at 42,000kcal/h, is fitted on the centre of their roof. No
ventilators are fitted on the roof. End cars are equipped with the automatic
jumper coupler to ease rush-up operations.
Bogies
Their bogies are DT50QA/TR235QA featuring bolster-less secondary air suspension,
corn-shaped multilayered rubber spring journal supporting system, and double
collar sealed roller bearing for improved stability at high speed. Traction
device of the bogie is Z link type. These bogies adopt the yaw dampers
to ensure smooth ride characteristics even at 120km/h.
Traction unit and ancillary equipments
Shunt-wound brushed DC traction motors, MT61QA, with a power output of
150kW realize larger torque at low speed and high speed by expanding the
field weakening ratio to 70%. The gear ratio is 5.6 to get high traction
force at starting and realize the maximum service speed at 120km/h. Eight
traction motors of Moha811 and Kumoha810 are controlled by traction system,
CS401K, adopting thyristor phase control. The powered end vehicles, Kumoha810,
are equipped with a traction rectifier, RS401K, and a traction transformer,
TM401K, under the floor. Class Kumoha810 vehicles are also equipped with
a diamond-shaped current collector, PS101QB. The trailer end vehicles,
class Kuha810, are equipped with a motor driven air compressor, MH1084-C2000MQ,
and a Constant Voltage Constant Frequency inverter, SC400K, for the auxiliary
power supply, under the floor. The brake system is the electric command
pneumatic brake. 811 series don't adopt regenerative brake like 783 series
but rheostatic brake.
Accommodation
Seating accommodation consists of switchable transverse seating with 910mm
seating pitch and transverse bucket seating bays at the ends of cars. The
air conditioning duct is fitted above the ceiling in order to improve interior
design and the outlets of cool air are slit shape. Class Kuha810 vehicles
are equipped with a Japanese style toilet having a chemical disposable
tank.
Latest operation status
811-0 series are now used on the rapid services and ordinary services of
Kagoshima, Nippo, and Nagasaki lines. Since refurbishment programme started
from 2016, 811-0 series are gradually decreasing. |
