	Pre-production type of N2000 series was developed for speeding up in 1995. More powerful traction engines rated at 350PS give maximum service speed of 130km/h. Although the vehicle design incorporates light weight stainless steel construction, outside plating of N2000 series is thicker than that of 2000 series by 0.3mm Bogies are changed into S-DT61 adopting the coil spring and multi-layered cylindrical rubber. Brake device was changed from the tread brake into caliper wheel disk brake. Mass-production type of N2000 vehicles were delivered from 1998. End design and livery are changed. N2000 series are used on the "Uzushio" intercity services between Takamatsu and Tokushima.
