K14 set
JR West underwent modifications to incorporate some of the improvements featured in the later N700-4000 series. Modified sets were classified into -5000 subseries.
N700-5000 series feature centre fastened brake disk to realize high brake performance. Their braking distance becomes 10% shorter than that of N700-3000 series. A fixed-speed travel device for more stable driving while following ATC signals and a bogie vibration detection system for perpetually monitoring the state of all bogies are introduced. Their body tilting system operates in curves of any radius from 2500m to 5000m in order to raise the maximum service speed up to 285km/h on the Tokaido Shinkansen.
