N700-9000 series are the next generation train for Tokaido and Sanyo Shinkansen developed by JR Central and JR West and pre-production unit was built in 2005.
N700-9000 series vehicles are hardly different from N700 mass-production units except not having segregated smoking compartment.
N700 series were underwent extensive testing ahead of full fleet production. After the start of squadron service, N700-9000 series became JR Central's testbed train .
