Background and overview
JR Kyushu modified kiha125-24 vehicle besides kiha47 9082 and kiha47-8159
vehicles used in "Isaburo/Shimpei" excursion services to enter
"Kanpachi/Isoroku" excursion services in April 2024 and classified
into class R2. A class R2 train set consists of 2R-16 converted from kiha47
9082 of car's number 1, 2R-80 converted from kiha125-24 of car's number
2, and 2R-38 converted from kiha47 8159 of car's number 3.
Car body
The front doorways of the 2R-16 and 2R-38 vehicles are filled with plates
by welding. Four side windows and a door case window toward the front between
the doors are converted into fixed windows, while a side window and a rear
door case window are merged into a single large fixed window. In contrast,
for the 2R-80 vehicle, the doorways behind the cabs and the rear windows
are also sealed with welded plates. The front windows and one centrally
located window between the doors are modified into fixed windows, and the
remaining ones are combined in pairs to form large fixed windows. Bodies
are painted in glossy black with the gold line featuring the Kyudai line
route map located on the side of the body and the edge lines featuring
the station names of the Kyudai line located at the upper frieze board
and the skirting of the wainscot panel. The symbol mark made up of the
Chinese numeral of eight featuring Mount Yufu, and six Chinese numerals
of one featuring rivers flowing along the line are put on the front gangway
doors and the side of the body. Air conditioners of 2R-16 and 2R-38 consists
of a prime mover driven air conditioner, AU619K, rated at 20,600kcal/h
and a self-powered air conditioner, AU620K, rated at 20,000kcal. Indoor
units are installed on the roof and outdoor units are beneath the floor.
Ventilators on the roof are removed. In contrast, the 2R-80 vehicle is
equipped with a prime mover driven air conditioner rated at 31,000kcal/h.
Bogies
The powered bogies of 2R-16 and 2R18 are DT22D, and trailer bogies are
TR51C, employing swing hanger construction, coil springs as bolster spring,
and pedestal type journal supporting system. These bogies employ single
tread brake rigging powered by the body mounted brake cylinder. On the
other hand, the powered bogie of 2R-80 is DT601K, and thew trailer bogies
is TR601K featuring diaphragm airbags for the secondary suspension, pedestal
type journal supporting system, and sealed roller bearings. Powered bogie
features 2-axle drive for anti-slip. These bogies employ single tread brake
rigging powered by the body mounted brake cylinder. The wheel diameter
is 860mm and the wheelbase is 1900mm.
Traction unit and ancillary equipments
2R-16 is powered by a four-cycle straight-six diesel prime mover, SA6D125HE-1
of Komatsu Ltd, rated at 300PS featuring the turbo charger powered by the
flow of exhaust gas and the common rail direct fuel injection to reduce
exhaust emission, especially NOx, significantly. 2R-38 is powered by a
four-cycle straight-six diesel prime mover, SA6D125H-1A of Komatsu Ltd,
rated at 300PS featuring the turbo charger powered by the flow of exhaust
gas. Their hydraulic transmission is TACN-22-1612A. Their brake system
is the automatic electromagnetic (CLE) air brake featuring load-sensing
control. On the contrary, 2R-80 is powered by a four cycle straight-six
diesel prime mover, DMF13HZ of NIIGATA ENGINEERING CO., LTD., rated at
330PS employing the intercooler and the turbo charger powered by the flow
of exhaust gas. Its hydraulic transmission classified into DW600K features
a three-member one-stage two-phase torque converter, and two-staged direct
coupled range. Its brake system is DA1A automatic brake with exhaust brake
and engine brake.
Accommodation The accommodation of 2R-16 features red-themed interior evoking volcanoes and hot springs of Beppu, Oita pref. and consists of a side corridor with five 3-seat sofas and a 6-seat transverse seating bay located toward front of the doorway, a compartment with floor covered with tatami mats behind the cab, and 4-seat transverse seating bay located at the rear of the doorway. Lockers are located across the aisle from the 4-seat transverse seating bay.
The accommodation of 2R-38 features green and blue themed interior evoking the plain and the mountains of Kurume Fukuoka pref. and consists of a centre aisle with four 2-seat transverse seating bays on the right side of the aisle, three 4-seat transverse seating bays on the left side of the aisle, a 3-seat transverse seating bay beside the doorway, and a compartment with floor covered with tatami mats behind the cab. A universal access toilet and a flush urinal are located at the rear of the body. Lockers are located across the aisle from the toilet and the flush urinal.
The accommodation of 2R-80 is inspired by the climate of Yufuin and Hita, and consists of a refreshment counter and a free space with having 7.88m long table made from a single plank of 250-year-old ceder.
Operations
A class 2R train entered "Kanpachi" and "Isoroku" intercity
services linking Hakata and Beppu via Kagoshima, Kyudai, and Nippo lines
in April 2024 and now used on the revenue services. |
