Background and overview
JR East made a plan to relocate surplus 205 series EMU trains replaced
by E231 series to Musashino line in 2002. 205 series used on commuter services
of Musashino line feature increased motored vehicles for high-speed operation
on graded route. Since enhanced adhesion of Variable frequency drive inverter
traction system realizes the train set consisting of 4 motored vehicles
and 4 trailer vehicles, the traction system of motored vehicles was changed
into PWM inverter and classified into -5000 sub-series.
Bogies
Since a power transmission device was changed into twin disk (TD) coupling
because of employing induction motors, motored bogies were changed into
DT70.
Traction unit and auxiliary equipments
Traction motors are PG (Pulse Generator) sensor-less AC 3-phase asynchronous
motor, MT74, with a power output of 150kW. 8 traction motors are controlled
by the 2-level variable frequency drive traction system, SC71, featuring
Insulated-Gate Bipolar Transistor (IGBT) and fields-oriented control. Surplus
traction motors and traction system removed from motored cars were transplanted
to additional 253 series.
Class moha204 vehicles are equipped with a motor generator, DM106, with
a power output of 190kVA featuring brush less motor for the auxiliary power
supply or a converter, SC66B, with a power output of 210kVA featuring semiconductor
elements
Latest operation status
Now 205-5000 series are gradually replaced with E231-0 series and remaining
205-5000 series are also used on the rapid and ordinary services of Musashino
line. |
