Background and overview
205-1000 series electric multiple unit (EMU) trains were reformed by addition of the new built cab section onto surplus powered intermediate cars which had been used on the commuter services of Yamanote line, and replaced superannuated 101 series EMU trains used on the ordinary services of Nambu branch line in 2002. 205-1000 series consist of 2 motored vehicles and 0 trailer vehicles. They have no relationship with 205-1000 series built by JR West.

Car body
Newly built cab sections are made of composite material of fibre-glass reinforced plastic (FRP) and phenol resin-foamed article. The body length was extended by 200mm. The loudspeakers for passengers waiting at a station, are fitted on each side of the body.

Auxiliary equipments
Inverter auxiliary power supply are added onto class kumoha204-1000. The current collector was changed into the single-arm type, PS33E from 2009.
As for the device of driving cab, one handle master controller operated by the left hand was adopted such as E231 series.

Accommodation
Seating is longitudinal throughout. Kumoha204 vehicle is equipped with a wheelchair spaces.

Latest operation status
205-1000 series are used on the ordinary services of Nambu branch line.
