In 1993, JR Central developed class Kiha75-0 DMU in order to superannuated Kiha58 series used on "Mie" rapid services linking Nagoya and Ise-shi / Toba. The standard formation of class kiha75-0 is 2-car formation by -0 sub-class vehicle with the toilet and -100 sub-class vehicle without toilet.
Class Kiha75-0 adopt the lightweight stainless body such as 311 series. 3 double slide doors are fitted on each side of the body. Their floor level is 90 mm lower than Kiha85 series to discontinue the step at the doorway and realize lower centre of gravity.
Class Kiha75-0 are equipped with 2 traction engines, C-DMF14HZB of Cummins INC., US, rated at 350PS, a vehicle and are equipped with the direct coupled range two-staged hydraulic transmission gears, C-DW14 in order to achieve maximum service speed at 120km/h. Bogies, C-DT60, adopt the bolster-less air suspension with anti-yaw dampers for improved stability. The brake system is the electric command brake. The automatic jumper couplers are fitted at the cab end in order to couple/uncouple formations easily.
Passenger accommodation is 2+2 abreast switchable transverse seating, with 940mm seating pitch. The air conditioner, C-AU30, is driven by the traction engine.
Class Kiha75-0 are used on the "Mie" rapid services and the rural services of the Taketoyo line.
