Type index

JR Central built Kiha75-400 type Diesel Multiple Unit (DMU) in order to use on the conductor-less rural services of Taketoyo line in the daytime. Kiha75-400 vehicles differ from Kiha75-200 vehicles in having several facilities for conductor-less operation. The ticket machine, which put the ticket indicating the boarding station, is located at the boarding doors. The fare display and the fare box are located behind the motorman's cab.
After the Taketoyo line was electrified in 2015, some Kiha75-400 Diesel Multiple Unit (DMU) vehicles were introduced to the rural services of Takayama line and Taita line in order to replace remaining former JNR-era DMUs, including Kiha40, Kiha47, Kiha48. At this time, the steps at the doorway were fitted. They feature heavy protection against snow and coldness and are classified into -3400 sub-class.
Class Kiha75-3400 DMU trains are now used on the rural services of Takayama line and Taita line.
